Kharkov governor knows what price of Russian gas for Ukraine will be

Read it in Russian

“The Yanukovich government has not made public the price of the Russian gas for Ukraine in 2008. It is quite understandable why not – they are ashamed of looking into people’s eyes knowing that the gas will cost $150 per 1,000 cubic meters. Then everyone will know that the government is unable to agree with Russia,” Kharkov Governor Arsen Avakov announced at a news conference in Kharkov yesterday, a REGNUM correspondent reports.

According to him, Kharkov Region Administration is doing its best not to allow raise of the gas price for residents of the region. “The gas price for Ukrainians must be fixed at the level of 470 hryvnia per 1,000 cubic meters, without any recalculation coefficients. Generally speaking, Ukraine must have enough gas from its domestic extraction. Under any estimations, it occurs that the gas extracted in the country is enough for the population; by the way, 60% of this gas is extracted in our region. That is why I cannot comprehend why a pensioner from local village must pay for Akhmetov’s gas?”
