Yushchenko turns to Prosecutor General’s Office about delays in ballots counting
Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko is concerned with delays in ballots counting in eastern and southern Ukrainian provinces and gives an instruction to law enforcement bodies to immediately start investigating causes and circumstances why initial election protocols are being detained, says a statement by the president released by his press office, a REGNUM correspondent informs.
The delay with ballots counting in eastern and southern provinces, particularly, in Donetsk, Lugansk, Odessa regions and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea makes me concerned. The process has all signs of foot-dragging. I call for exhaustive explanations, in particular, from the Central Election Commission and the Prosecutor General’s Office, the statement says. I say it crisp and clear to forces that hope for getting into the parliament with the help of manipulations. The word will not be too far from the deed, falsifiers will be punished. Do not try the law or your own fate. Nobody will succeed in replacing the true position of the electorate, he said.
By 08:00 a.m. local time, the Central Election Commission had counted about 94% of the ballots.
