Political analyst: New Ukrainian Supreme Rada will work till 2009
The first result of the elections is change of power, because, most probably, a majority will be formed by Yulia Timoshenko’s Bloc and Our Ukraine – People’s Defense Bloc with returning Yulia Timoshenko to the prime minister’s post, Ukrainian political analyst Vadim Karasev told a REGNUM correspondent today.
According to the political analyst, such majority is based on the at least semi-sensational results shown by BYT that managed to collect more than 30% of the votes. The fact that BYT was running at the elections as a single political force contributed to the result, because the coalition members were in power and Our Ukraine – People’s Defense Bloc is associated in people’s minds with President Viktor Yushchenko, who is in power too. Yulia Timoshenko’s political force, as the only non-governmental structure, won over those dissatisfied with the Oranges in western Ukraine and with Regions Party in eastern and central Ukraine, which provided for such significant increase, the expert said.
He also noted that the Supreme Rada will stay until its term expires. The parliament will be re-elected before the presidential election or, which is more probable, right after the presidential election to let a new country leader have a loyal parliament on the surge of his victory, Vadim Karasev said.
