Yushchenko explains to Russia at what price to sell gas to Ukraine
Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko thinks that the optimal price for gas to be imported into Ukraine in 2008 is $150-160 for 1,000 cubic meters. He made the announcement today, speaking on air of the Inter television (Ukraine).
The price on the border is optimal, rational, well-considered, most actors in the market would treat it with understanding – it is the price which is practically on the level of $150-160 per a thousand cubic meters, Yushchenko particularly said. Speaking on Ukraine’s possible actions in case the announced price is higher, the president noted: I would like to respond to this like in 2005, when we were offered the price of $235 – there will no higher price. This is not the case it is inacceptable for us, the matter is it is not founded.
This year, Ukraine buys gas from RosUkrEnergo at the price of $130 per 1,000 cubic meters.
