Georgian politician: The most important is to prevent Saakashvili from winning first voting
Leader of the New Rights Party David Gamkrelidze running for Georgian presidency believes that the most important thing for the opposition is to prevent the current president, Mikhail Saakashvili from winning the first voting at the January 5, 2008 elections. He made the statement to Rustavi 2 TV-channel (Georgia).
The New Rights’ leader finds it inexpedient to propose single candidate from the opposition at the first voting and announces his readiness to hand over votes that he would receive at the first voting to a candidate that reaches the second voting. Altogether, we must take effort to have the second voting and in this case all opposition candidates must call upon their voters to support and give their votes to a candidate with the highest ratings, Gamkrelidze said. He emphasized that he would start an active campaign only after the election day is announced officially.
On November 24, the New Rights will have an extraordinary congress, at which David Gamkrelidze will be officially introduced as a presidential contender.
Independent MP, former Georgian prosecutor-general, Giya Meparishvili believes that Mikhail Saakashvili would win at the first voting.
