With ballots from 229 polling stations counted Saakashvili in the lead in Georgian presidential race

After preliminary ballot counting at 229 from the 3,600 polling stations in Georgia by the Georgian Central Election Commission (CEC), Mikhail Saakashvili is leading at the early presidential election. According to the CEC, he received 57.58% of the votes (86,216 votes) at the polling stations where the ballots are counted.

He is followed by candidate of the united opposition Levan Gachechiladze (22,56%), businessman Arkady (Badri) Patarkatsishvili (6.07%), leader of the Labor Party Shalva Natelashvili (4.36%), leader of the New Rights Party David Gamkrelidze (3.47%), leader of the Party of the Future Giorgi Maisashvili (0.69%) and leader of Imedi Party Irina Sarishvili (0.16%).

The early presidential elections took place in Georgia yesterday, on January 5. Under preliminary information of the CEC, 1,912,943 citizens (or 56.17% of eligible voters) participated in the voting.
