With data from almost 1,000 polling stations counted, Saakashvili falls short of 0.7% to win in first round
The Georgian Central Election Commission has processed data from 996 of the 3,600 polling stations. Presidential contender Mikhail Saakashvili has won at the present moment 49.3% of the votes. His closest rival, candidate from the united opposition Levan Gachechiladze received 25.52%. He is followed by businessman Arkady (Badri) Patarkatsishvili with 7.22%, leader of the Labor Party Shalva Natelashvili with 6.8%, leader of the New Rights Party David Gamkrelidze 3.72%. Candidates Giorgi Maisashvili and Irina Sarishvili obtained insignificant numbers of votes.
