NATO issue provokes scandal in Ukrainian parliament
Chair of the Ukrainian Supreme Rada Arseny Yatsenyuk had to announce a break in the work of the Ukrainian parliamentary session today, on January 18, asking heads of the parliamentary factions to summon for political consultations after the opposition blocked the parliamentary rostrum, a REGNUM correspondent informs.
Members of the Regions Party faction blocked the rostrum claiming that Yatsenyuk recalled his signature under the letter on Kiev joining the NATO membership action plan. In his turn, Yatsenyuk addressed the opposition with a proposal to introduce amendments to the law on guidelines of Ukraine’s national security. As soon as we vote on the amendments, the signature will be recalled, until then I ask you to take your seats, let’s continue the session, work on the agenda and stop discrediting the Ukrainian parliament, he said.
After the speaker’s proposal failed to suit the opposition, he suggested summoning for a lesson of law about possible Ukraine NATO membership.
