Kosovo's independence is beginning of the end of European integration: expert opinion

Read it in Russian

Granting independence to Kosovo marks a beginning of the end of integration processes in Europe, president of the Academy of Geopolitical Studies Leonid Ivashov stated at a press conference on the situation in the Balkans that was held on March 11 in Moscow.

According to Ivashov, cited by a REGNUM correspondent, the Balkans 20 years ago started to turn into a laboratory for testing a new world order. “By granting independence to Kosovo, the mechanism was launched of undermining competitiveness of Europe as compared to the USA and of channeling the European Union's energy to combatting the separatist trends that have become clearly visible on the continent.”

“One can observe the creation in Kosovo of a union of super-rich people and national minorities, joined by the criminal international, and first of all, narcomafia. We are witnessing the final collapse of the system of international security,” Ivashov has stated.

The expert forecasts that in the foreseeable future, instability will contaminate the whole of the Balkan region. Then the plague will move on to Europe, he warns.
