Explosive device used in a terrorist act in South Ossetia on March 23 was disguised as a wine container. It was given to the terrorist act's victims by persons who had arrived from territory controlled by the Georgian side. REGNUM correspondent quotes assistant commandant of the Joint Peacekeeping Force, lieutenant colonel Yuri Vereshak to report on the terrorist act investigation.

In his words, a trilateral group of military observers accompanied by an OSCE mission representative performed a monitoring in Okona settlement (Znaur region of South Ossetia) to investigate information about explosion and injuries received by two citizens of South Ossetia on March 23, 2008.

“It has been established during the monitoring that at about 12:00 on March 23, an explosion occurred near Niva automobile at the north of Okona settlement, in which South Ossetian citizens Vladislav Doguzov and Inal Koliyev were injured.”

“The explosion happened due to detonation of explosive device that was disguised as a wine container that was given to the injured by persons who had arrived from the territory controlled by the Georgian side,” Vereshak informed.

He noted that as a result of “the explosive device's detonation, Doguzov received multiple missile wounds, Koliyev has lower limbs and the right hand shot off, in addition to multiple missile wounds.”

“It has been established that Doguzov is a serviceman of JPF South Ossetian battalion who was on leave in the Okona settlement.”

Vereshak stressed that in the last month, this is already the second terrorist attack with the use of explosives in the conflict zone. “These actions, JPF believes, artificially destabilize the situation and incite the sides to retaliate,” Vereshak summed up.
