Putin to Saakashvili: Russia's Abkhazia- and South Ossetia-related acts are entirely in legal domain
President of Russia Vladimir Putin in a telephone conversation with president of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili on April 21 ensured that acts of Russia concerning Abkhazia and South Ossetia lay “entirely in the legal domain and are of exclusively social-economic nature,” REGNUM correspondent quotes Kremlin's press service statement.
“Responding to an address of the Georgian president, Vladimir Putin explained in detail the essence of decisions of the Russian Federation concerning withdrawal from the CIS' sanctions regime against Abkhazia, as well as of instructions to government about interaction with power agencies of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in the trade-economic, social, technical research fields, in the spheres of information, culture, and education in order to establish an inclusive protection of legal interests of Russia's citizens residing in these territories.”
“President of Russia expressed hope that the Georgian side would also take practical steps in order to alleviate social burden and ensure economic development of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.”
“Having informed of the content of measures taken to lift restrictions in the Russian-Georgian relations (visa issues, the Upper Lars border terminal, problems of access of Georgian agricultural produce to the Russian market), Vladimir Putin expressed intention to continue work aimed at giving a positive impetus to the bilateral relations,” the statement reads.
