Supreme Rada Deputy: Ukraine should decide together with Russia whether to recognize Holodomor as Genocide
"Ukraine should consider and assess together with the Russian Federation whether Holodomor in 1932-1933 might be recognized as Genocide, establishing interstate working expert group. As a result of that, it should settle the problem in coordination in the both countries," Supreme Rada Deputy from the Regions Party Yuri Miroshnichenko believes. He is quoted by the Regions Party press office as expressing such opinion on October 23, commenting on Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko’s initiative to propose to parliament to recognize Holodomor in 1932-1933 as Ukrainian Genocide, a REGNUM correspondent informs.
"I agree with president concerning necessity to recognize by Ukrainian parliament Holodomor as Genocide against Ukrainian people. However, we should go farther ahead and make decision on those, whom we accuse of committed Genocide," the MP stressed. As for me personally, I am categorically against accusations, addressed to sister nation Russia, whose resident suffered from criminal actions at that time, too. At present, our task is not to switch guilt for what has happened but objectively to assess those events.
In is worth reminding; on October 22, meeting with the Hungarian Ukrainian community in Budapest, the Ukrainian president stated he was going to submit a bill on recognizing Holodomor in 1932-1933 in Ukraine as Genocide against Ukrainian people. On October 25, we will commemorate the anniversary of the awful event; before that, president will initiate discussing by the parliament a bill on recognizing Holodomor as Genocide against the Ukrainian people, Viktor Yushchenko said in particular.
