Andrus Ansip: Afghanistan is one of Estonia’s priority partners
Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip, who is on an official visit in Afghanistan, declared Estonia’s support to the Afghani government and President Hamid Karzai as well as prolongation of Estonia’s military mission in the country, press office of the Estonian government told a REGNUM correspondent on December 11.
Estonia does remember life under dictatorship, we received support from abroad and now feel a moral obligation to render it to others, Ansip said. He also announced that Afghanistan is one of the country’s priority partners in the region.
Ansip inspected a unit of Estonian troops deployed in Kabul. The prime minister is to go back to Estonia on December 12.
It is worth mentioning, in December 2006 the number of Estonian troops in Afghanistan increased to 130. The Estonian parliament spoke for prolonging the Estonian mission up to January 2008.
