Abkhazia is not a black hole, apart from Russian peacekeepers, UN mission is deployed there – Russian military official
Russian Land Forces Commandment refutes reports of Georgian officials that Russia deployed extra forces in Abkhazia. Abkhazia is not a black hole; apart from the Russian peacekeepers, the UN observer mission in Georgia is deployed there, but no officer of the mission announced and cannot announce that any Russian soldier is one too many there, Deputy Chief Commander of the Russian Land Forces Lieut.-Gen. Valery Yevnevich announced today. It is another piece of misinformation that is constantly repeated by Tbilisi.
The general made the statement commenting on a statement by the chair of the Georgian parliamentary defense and national security committee Givi Targamadze made in Tbilisi on November 13. If Russia recognizes Abkhazia’s independence, it will automatically mean Russia pronouncing war on Georgia. The step will be treated exactly like this, so Russia has already started introducing additional forces and equipment to Abkhazia, Targamadze said. The Abkhaz Land Forces Commandment has already denied reports on deployment of Russian troops into Abkhazia and called it a provocation and fiction, the Russian Defense Ministry informs.
