World Ice Climbing Cup finished in Kirov

The World Ice Climbing Cup has finished today, on March 8th, in Kirov. The closing ceremony of the tournament was attended by Kirov Region Governor Nikita Belykh, deputy chair of the regional government Sergey Shcherchkov, head of the Kirov city administration Vladimir Bykov, representatives of the general sponsor of the cup Vyatka-Bank, as well as of the International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation (UIAA), and the cup main referee Andrey Pechak.

To remind, about 80 leading sportsmen from Russia, Slovenia, Italy, France, the Czech Republic, Spain, USA, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Austria, Hong Kong, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Mongolia and South Korea were competing to be the best in the contest.

‘I am happy to welcome everyone who has been enjoying the cup for the three days,’ said Nikita Belykh. ‘I can state that the Ice Climbing World Cup has succeeded. I would like to congratulate both the winners and those who has not taken a place on the winners’ podium, but participated in this sports event. It is our common victory!’

Later, an awarding ceremony took place. Most of the winners are Russians (they took all medal places in the speed contest). The winners got ice tools matching in color with their medals, gold, silver or bronze.
